Delphinium and her sisters have built a new life in Nebraska, working the land and creating a memorial garden in honor of their mother. Yet despite their progress, money is running short, and the challenges of frontier living grow harder by the day.

Del’s teaching position offers hope — not only for supporting her family, but for shaping young lives in a booming town that doesn’t always value education. As the schoolhouse falls into disrepair and parents pull children from class to work the land, Del must decide how hard she’s willing to fight for her calling.

When their brother Anders arrives with his war-wounded friend RJ, a new opportunity emerges: a boardinghouse that could secure the sisters’ future. Del, however, wants little to do with the guarded and distant RJ. Still, as plans unfold and pressures mount, she begins to realize that both the future — and RJ — may hold unexpected promise.
