Our D.I.Y. Gratitude Ritual
Happy Thanksgiving to those of us celebrating the official U.S. holiday! But regardless of your holiday status, we wanted to devote an episode to the topic of gratitude.
Join us as we demonstrate a do-it-yourself gratitude ritual in real time, talk about how gratitude can be a secret weapon, and share some tips for how to cultivate gratitude even when you're not feeling like there's a lot to be thankful for.
Tips for expressing gratitude your way:
Gratitude isn't something that should feel like a chore. If it does, you might not be expressing gratitude in a way that reflects the unique way God made you.
If you're feeling stuck, try some of these on until you find one that works for you!

Write a list of things you're thankful for in a journal.

Take a walk or hike in nature and come up with a "Gratitude from A to Z" list as you go.

Draw, paint or doodle pictures of things or words you're grateful for.

Walk through your home to trigger memories of people, events or things you're thankful for.

Choose (or even write!) a song to play or sing expressing gratitude to God.

Write a poem expressing thanksgiving to God.

Read scriptures that reflect gratitude.

Our prayer for you today ...
Dear God,
Lord, we confess that we don't give thanks nearly often enough. Thank you for the many blessings in our lives, big and small. We thank you for the greatest gift, your Son Jesus who died to bring us back into fellowship with you. For the gift of the Holy Spirit who lives in us, teaches us and helps us live in total communion with you. For the beautiful world we live in and the people in it who love us and whom we love.
We give thanks for the thorns of life as well as the roses. We know that you are at work in all things, and because of that we can give thanks in all circumstances, knowing that you are in them and with us through them, always working for our ultimate good in spite of a fallen world.
We pray that when we don't feel like there is anything to be happy about or thankful for that you would meet us in our grief, our despair and our frustration and open our eyes to your loving hand at work. Give us spiritual eyes that transcend the troubles of this world to see blessings where before we could not.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
