Using Your "Flaws" to Discover Your Praying Superpower
What if the things you wish you could change about yourself could actually be superpowers?
Is there something you'd change about yourself if you had the opportunity? What if that annoying personality trait could actually be the key to discovering your praying superpower?
In this episode of the Praying Christian Women podcast, we discuss how our new book She Prays Like a Girl: Discover the Joy and Power of Praying Like You (and No One Else), helps women to not just come to terms with perceived weaknesses, but actually use them as a springboard for a more powerful prayer life.
Examples of prayer superpowers disguised as weaknesses:
-
Disorganization: If you're disorganized, you might actually have a creative, imaginative mind which lends itself to powerful prayers! You are probably also a pretty go-with-the-flow person who can make herself available to pray in any and every situation.
-
Easily distracted: If you find yourself being distracted when you try to pray, or even have an ADHD diagnosis, this can be a superpower. Your flexible mind is perfect for using triggers to pray for all kinds of people, places and issues. Driving past your church? Pray for your pastor. Folding laundry? Pray for each member of your family. You are flexible and have a nimble mind which can be used mightily in God's kingdom!
-
Introverted: If you are an introvert, you gain your energy by being alone. This does not mean you don't care deeply about/can't pray powerfully for others! You probably function best while praying with a prayer partner or alone, but you can go deep with God during these times of prayer. You might explore the things that make you emotional and discover a prayer burden for an issue or people group that you can research and pray for thoroughly.
-
Mental or physical health challenges: When you have chronic struggles with mental or physical health, it can be frustrating and feel like a detriment to your prayer life. But the grit it takes to push through chronic struggles of any kind, as well as the learned skill of being in tune with your body and mind can be prayer superpowers. You also have insights through lived experience that can be used by God to encourage and pray powerfully for others facing similar challenges that nobody else could pull off.
-
Forceful personality: It's not easy being a woman with a strong or forceful personality. You may feel pressured to make yourself smaller, or embarrassed you aren't the stereotypical "gentle and quiet" Christian woman. But you know what? Warriors are strong and forceful, and your prayer superpower may be that you're a force to be reckoned with in the spiritual realm! Lean in and allow God to harness that warrior power and strength in prayers that change the world.

Our prayer for you today ...
Dear God,
We praise you that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. We pray that you would forgive us for being hard on ourselves, or even thinking you have made mistakes in the ways you've created us. We ask for your grace and wisdom to find our prayer superpowers in the things we consider weaknesses. May we delight in our weaknesses, knowing that Christ's power rests in us.
Amen.
